TreesHere for the quiet?
Both apps have gentle well-being ideas for time outdoors: slowing down, noticing more, and feeling a bit more at home among the trees.
Why I made them
Wild Notebook
Bushcraft Log
The logbook app for your bushcraft practice. Note a session in the field in a few taps, write it up properly later, and watch your hours build towards your goal.
- Quick notes in the field: type, talk or record a voice note, and a timer counts your hours.
- Every skill in one place: entries, study notes, photos, sketches and where you were.
- Ready to hand in: a tidy printout or Word document of your whole logbook.

Wild Notebook
Trees
Learn to recognise the trees of Britain, one outing at a time. Mark the ones you've spotted and the ones you know well, and keep your own field notebook as you go.
- 40 UK trees: 29 broadleaves and 11 conifers, native and non-native.
- The giveaway for each tree, plus what it's been used for, from shipbuilding to bushcraft.
- Quizzes to test yourself, or play with friends round the fire.

Why it exists
Made in the Welsh woods
Wild Notebook is made by Primal Forest, my small woodland skills and well-being business in Wales.
My journey has taken me to many woodland, bushcraft and well-being projects across Wales and the wider UK. Working towards my own bushcraft qualification meant keeping a logbook, and nothing out there felt quite right. So, like a lot of people in bushcraft, I made my own tool. It's helped me, and I hope it helps you too.
I built the apps in the UK, because that's where I am and what I know. But they're made around your own journey: you add your own skills, knowledge and what's local to you, so they work wherever you spend time outdoors.
Every good bushcraft tool
starts with a need.
This one started with mine.

Good questions
Questions people ask
Are the apps free?
Yes. Both apps are free to download and use. If you'd like to, you can support us in the app, and supporters get a few extras as a thank-you, like more colour themes and stickers.
When can I download them?
Very soon. We're putting the finishing touches to them now, ready for Google Play and the App Store. Email us and we'll let you know the day they're ready.
Do I need signal or an account?
No. Both apps work fully offline, and there's no account to make. Everything you add stays on your own device.
Can I use Bushcraft Log for my bushcraft course or award?
Yes, that's what it's for. It records your hours, skills and sessions, and turns them into a clear printout or Word document. Wild Notebook is independent and isn't linked to any awarding or training body, so check what your own course asks your logbook to show.
Which trees are in the Trees app?
40 trees you're likely to meet in Britain: 29 broadleaves, from oak, ash and beech to rowan and hawthorn, and 11 conifers, including Scots pine, yew and larch. You can add your own trees too.
Will there be more apps?
Yes. We're building more Wild Notebook apps for time outdoors. Email us and we'll tell you when each one is ready.
What happens to my notes and photos?
They're kept on your device and never sent to us. You can make a backup file whenever you like and keep it wherever you choose. You can read our privacy policy.
